WHY CHEFS ARE PISSED? A MELANCTHON MEGA QUARRY

Great article, read in its entirety at this link:
http://www.thegridto.com/city/local-news/why-local-chefs-are-pissed-at-quarry-proposal/

Hi-lites include:
"A crowd of a hundred or so farmers, environmentalists, politicians and chefs (including The Gilead’s Jamie Kennedy, Cava’s Chris McDonald and Eigensinn Farm’s Michael Stadtländer) gathered at Marben Restaurant Tuesday to essentially tell influential big-city folk how this proposed quarry will affect Torontonians."

“We all have a shared interest in the water, earth and sunlight of Ontario,” said Slow Food Toronto head Paul DeCampo. “We drink the water and eat the food from these farms so it’s up to us to protect the land. We can’t just be passive consumers.”

  1. It hasn't been too difficult to raise support to stop this mega-disaster, the issue sells itself. What worries me is the backroom political deals that have already been made, the money that is already lining pockets. The political world tends to be incestuous and self-serving. If common sense and principals win here, the mega quarry is dead. Trouble is, money and greed tend to trump everything else. The cynic in me is still alive, I guess...
