TURBINE TALK

Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne said municipalities will be consulted before major projects proceed“It’s true that there’s not a veto power involved in this process, but we always have to balance the greater good with the local good,” Wynne said. “I hope it meets the needs of the municipality but we’re going to work on it.”  http://www.lfpress.com/2013/05/30/ontario-premier-kathleen-wynne-says-municipalities-will-be-consulted-before-major-projects-proceed

"Consultation"
According to the thesaurus it also means discussion / talk / session / conference / meeting / sounding

I can't find anything in the thesaurus where it means, expropriation, lawsuit, bullying, roughshod, skirting the regulatory framework......you get the drift.

However, DWP is insistent that portions of the line be overhead, and has indicated that it will not negotiate with the county unless it is to be built in accordance with plans approved in its “leave to construct” from the Ontario Energy Board ( OEB).
http://www.citizen.on.ca/news/2013-08-22/Front_Page/County_demanding_burial_of_entire_230kv_line_DWP.html

Mayor Hill said in his letter and in an interview that DWP, unlike other wind companies dealing with the township and landowners, has simply ridden roughshod over anyone in its path.   He says DWP has been unwilling to discuss the concept, let alone negotiate.
http://www.citizen.on.ca/news/2013-08-15/Regional_News/Melancthon_mayor_Hill_stunned_by_effects_of_flawed.html

What is interesting about their declared start date is that there are still a number of major issues to resolve in the only 11 days remaining until August 12.
As of this date, there is no agreement with the County regarding the use of the rail lands, nor has their action to expropriate the County lands (as well as the private land owners along the corridor) been successful or withdrawn.DWP has also made a request to the OEB to allow them to expropriate portions of the lands of three current leaseholders in their project, who were not compliant in the negotiations regarding routing of the transmission and distribution lines inside the project. This has not been resolved as of this writing.

“I appreciate the passion you all bring to this very important issue,” she wrote. “I believe as premier we can balance our need for aggregate resources while ensuring we protect our farmland.”

SYMBOLIC FLIGHT FOR FOOD AND WATER

Last Sunday’s Celebrate Food & Water First event culminated with a fly-by and landing by Bill Lishman, the ultralight pilot who famously led flocks of geese and storks on migratory routes throughout the United States.

As many as an estimated 1,500 Food & Water First supporters kept things alive at North Dufferin Recreation Centre (Honeywood arena) Sunday as North Dufferin Agriculture and Community Taskforce (NDACT) provided space for 52 indoor vendors as a sort of “thank you” event. Mr. Cosack is the spokesman for NDACT and was chairman of Sunday’s event. NDACT is currently following through on its quarry victory by promoting a concept of Food and Water First for all rural planning.

WATER DEAL UNDER REVIEW...

Well, looky here:

Ontario's Environmental Review Tribunal is set to review an agreement between Swiss food corporation Nestle and the provincial government.

The Ministry of Environment and Nestle reached a deal in February that would allow water to be withdrawn from an underground water source near Wellington County, Ont., about 40 km north of Guelph, during low water conditions.

The agreement came after Nestle appealed a Ministry of Environment ruling that gave the company a new five-year term but required them to reduce their water withdrawal during times of drought.

The tribunal says in a written decision that removing conditions requiring Nestle to restrict its water intake during droughts is not within the public interest.

That is the key in any lobbying or attempt to change provincial legislation-what is the public or provincal interest?

WHEN DID CANADA TURN INTO CHINA??

Today "our" farmed owned wind company aka CHINA is working feveriously on construction of a turbine just west of Redickville on County  Road 21.

I have to admit I am not that up to date on the turbine situation, unlike my keen mind and obviously stellar understanding of the entire mine situation (hahah), but if I am not mistaken I don't believe CHINA has acquired all of the permits required to begin construction.

That may be the way they do things IN China, but I thought IN Canada we have a regulatory framework in place for things like this.  Cause if we don't what the hell are we paying our politicians (and bureacrats) for?

Despite the fact the provincial Liberals have basically given the rubber stamp to these asinine industrial proposals on prime ag land and in rural Ontario, shouldn't CHINA at least have to go through the motions?

And I am choking on this as I am writing this back handed compliment, but here goes:....

At least Highlands didn't start digging their 2,300 hundred acre, 200 foot below the water table, open pit mine, BEFORE they got approval.

AND what the hell is going on at the intersection of Melancthon County Road 17 and 4th line Old Survey?

The Ontario Federation of Agriculture is running an on-line poll as part of a weekly feature to see how many folks have heard about Food & Water First.

At last check, only one-third of those participating have heard of us. Let's get those numbers up!

FATHER GOOSE AND FOOD AND WATER FIRST

Another great article by Bill Tremblay, Orangeville Banner....

Metroland file photo
An ultralight flight by a man known as Father Goose will help marry two crusades to save farmland.

Durham Region resident Bill Lishman, the first person to fly information with birds and the focal point of the 1996 movie Fly Away Home, plans to fly his ultralight plane from Pickering to Melancthon for the Food and Water First celebration on Saturday, Aug. 18.

“Quarries and gravel pits and airports trump farmland,” Lishman said. “It should be that farmland is the most valuable.”

While Lishman is known for his aviation efforts, he is also a member of Land Against  OVER Landings, a Pickering group dedicated to saving farmland from construction of an airport.

HOW DO YOU SAY ARROGANT?

China Longyuan Power Corporation

Excerpt from a letter to the editor:

And yet, Dufferin Wind seems to be ignoring this possibility in their plans to push ahead with the construction. It is as though they are “thumbing their noses” at the process and the community. Or maybe, they have some advance inside information about the outcome of the hearing. Or maybe, it is a matter of extreme over-confidence and the sense of entitlement that seems to permeate their dealings with the community. They are not the “good neighbours” their newspaper ads declare, when they display the arrogance and disregard for this community, and proper process in actions such as this.

OPINION ON HEDGEFUNDS

“I’ve been reading a lot about...... a hedge fund guy who ……..knows nothing about our business…..

No this comment isn’t about Baupost..

It is George  Clooney speaking about another hedgefund, but he coulda been talking about Baupost, same situation. Hedge fund involved in making money, NOT a product.  Just money.

So lets hope "our" new hedgefund, Bonnefield is looking to make money by producing a "product"....cause we all know producing money without "making a product" isn't really what capitalism is all about....in my esteemed and unnoticed opinion :)

And while we are on the subject, whodja rather...

.....have as spokesperson....???? (ha, fooled yah!!!)

WIND ARTICLE:

Adding "Dufferin" to your corporation’s name doesn’t necessarily make you local.

No matter how many times the wind farm developer claims to be, Dufferin Wind Power Inc. is no champion of the local community. At least that’s the way we see it.

If recent events are any indication, Dufferin Wind isn’t interested in playing nice with those local landowners it has so far been unable to buy out. It appears more interested in prying the land it needs for its 99 MW wind farm in Melancthon and 230 kV transmission line away from private landowners who have refused to sell.

WAH, WAH, WAH STEVE MADER AND BLUELAND

“We routinely receive letters of objection from people who live 40 to 50 kilometres away from the proposed aggregate facility and they’re saying they’re concerned about the noise of the delivery trucks and don’t want a site rezoned for aggregate,” he says. “We have to answer all of the objections that are registered and have to write letters responding to their noise concerns.”

Hey, Mr. Mader, newsflash:

FIRSTLY:  Trucks and their noise and impacts on roads don't disappear after they leave YOUR pit....just saying.

SECONDLY: Municipalities (and their ratepayers) routinely have to spend municipal tax dollars to fight the very basics of an aggregate application via zoning and official plan amendments, things like source water protection, loss of community capital through demolition of homesteads and destruction of prime ag land...so there Mr. Steve (whiney pants) Mader, VP of the aggregate company so very confusingly named Blueland Farms, located in Wiarton.

For what he does for a living, read all about it here:
