In response to the anon person questioning that Melancthon is the headwaters for the Grand and Nottawasaga River systems and is the source of water in the watershed for more than 1 million Ontarians, I would say, even my 3 year old knows the old rhyme:

Flow comes and goes all along the river systems and is monitored by the NVCA and GRCA. In terms of base flow quantity, much more water comes from the sources in Melancthon than from any other tributaries of the 2 river systems. The quality and kind of water originating in Melancthon is more germane in the context of the threat the proposed quarry poses. The water in Melancthon is not surface water but ground water of the highest quality that is easily contaminated and interrupted and, aside from a little slow recharge, is non renewable.

ReplyDeleteSo the water is non renewable and is feeding the NVCA and GRCA rivers and suppling 1 million people!
I am confused with these statements, if it is getting very little recharge and it is feeding two river systems and a million people, we should be concerned as it sounds like it may run dry!!!!
OMG - Seriously, go shut your water off, like NOW because you are right, 1 million people are going to run out of water immediately.
