Loud and proud about supporting an EA after being elected, as well as supporting changes to the Aggregate Resources Act.

Conservative-Sylvia Jones
In response to THREE direct questions to her about doing everything in her power, if re-elected, to bring about an EA, she stated that she was committed to taking the views of her constituents to Queen's Park.

  1. Lori jumped on a bandwagon 4 weeks ago and takes claim that she was the one who personally brought about an EA after having the ear of her party's taxman leader. She also had to check her "party's book" for every other answer other than the quarry.Smart Strang needs to get his party to discuss budgets as we already know we are in debt so what are the Green party going to do about it. And Sylvia has actually discussed the quarry at Queen's Park and has consistently been there supporting her community but has a knob for a party leader. Great choices...not.

  2. Dufferin-Caledon is being played by the Liberals, and too many people seem to be getting sucked in to their con.

McGuinty sees a way to take the seat by capitalizing on the popular wave of dissent regarding the quarry, so he allows the new candidate to make promises that she will stop the quarry, then initiates a MOE EA review right after Lori makes her press release stating her intention to stop the quarry, thus strengthening her appeal and credibility in the eyes of the gullible and all the while he remains consistently non-committal and aloof. He says, and (sadly) I do agree, that there is a legal government process to follow (the ARA), which he cannot stop (without stomping on a lot of his buddies' toes, at the very least,) and it may not even be legal to do so now. Anyway, by allowing Lori to make the false promises to win votes, she may well win the seat. That is the goal here. It will be easy to find excuses after she gets in why they the Liberals won't stop the quarry (have they ever lied to us before??). If McGuinty and his party gets back into government, her promises are not binding on him and he will have to not stop the process prematurely.

I wonder how many quarry opponents with conservative leanings are willing to sell themselves out in such an obviously desperate fashion.

The quarry will be defeated because of the clear threats it poses with too many muddy answers put forward by Highland, and because it is just a plain stupid idea.

  3. 4:38PM - you have it exactly right. It's called Politics and those that fall for the Liberal crap should give their head a shake. This is an election time and that EA announcement was timed perfectly to jumpstart the election. So obvious...

  4. Which Provincial leader is the only one to come visit and speak in Melancthon.....Mike Shriner, Green Party. They feel the quarry issue is important enough that the federal leader paid a visit. Sylvia Jones did a lot of work on the issue and we should be grateful to some extent but..... her leader plans to gut environmental policy and legislation just like the federal PC party is doing currently. Lori Holloway is late to the party. I am pretty sure she didnt do a thing about getting an EA. Does she even know where Melancthon is?

  5. Ahh, 8:12, don't be hard on Lori. She has shown up at lot of events and spoke eloquently at the Wallace farm (in Melancthon) after the tractor convoy. I truly believe that she cares about the issue. Whether or not she wields any power with HE WHO SITS ON THE THRONE AT THE MOMENT is yet to be seen. The Green Party has definitely been a class act, they have been a strong voice for stopping the mega quarry. Trouble is, most citizens in this province aren't terribly moved by common sense OR a need to protect our environment. As for Hudek and his cronies, they scare the heck outta me and despite our need for change how in the HELL can we live with a government who's politics are slightly to the right of Atilla the Hun?? I am NEVER gonna get a decent night's sleep again.....

  6. if you think Syvlia has any influence over Hudak you are wrong. In fact she has clearly been muzzled by him. She has NOT and will not commit to an EA if the Conservatives get elected. Why don't you ask her where all those petitions are she accepted on behalf of her concerned ratepayers a couple of weeks ago? I believe they are still sitting in her office.

  7. Lori jumped on the band wagon late? Melancthon Council just caught the caboose at the end of July when it looked like it was safe. Lori called for an EA in early July. Sylvia has yet to even realize the train has left the station.

  8. Strand was the best speaker and most informed on the issues, but he kinda looks like Norman
    Bates in this picture.

  9. LOL 10:44! That resemblance is a pity, because he really seems like a decent guy and like Ard Van Lewan in the federal election, the best speaker by all accounts. We all need to start voting for the best and to hell with what grandpa says...on politics anyway...grandpa is right about everything else, but voting for "the party" has had its day.

  10. Agreed 8.46, a fresh approach, someone with vision, what a novelty, why are we so afraid to vote for new ideas, the status quo clearly isn't working. I heard Hudak on CBC yesterday, I just about barfed, I find Mcguinty to be utterly condescending, imagine, Hudak upped the anti on 'smug, arrogant b*st**d'. Heaven help us all if he get's in, remember what Harper said: "Let's finish it" meaning, the trifecta. Yes, the right wing despots most certainly would finish the Canada we love.
