"The two-fold purpose of Wednesday's meeting was to provide the latest information about a plan by Dufferin Aggregates Ltd. to open a pit on 614 acres of farmland on Watts Pond Road and to rev up a membership drive as the citizen group continues to press for a halt in the company's plans until they are reviewed."

In my opinion, the aggregate industry sees some very chilling changes coming to the sweet deal they have had for years and are now going full tilt to get all their licenses under the old system before things change.
Thanks to the State of the Aggregate Resources of Ontario Study (SAROS Feb-2010) the aggregate industry anticipates decades of growth and is getting their dibs in now. The onslaught of applications is working against them though. People are balking.
