LIBERAL GOVERNMENT WORKING FOR RURAL ONTARIO

Liberal government working for rural Ontario?
NOT!!
Carol Mitchell is a former Liberal MPP for Huron-Bruce and former Minister of Ontario Ministry of Agriculture (OMAFRA).
She was born in Goderich, served as Warden in Huron County, and lives in Clinton, all large agriculture communities.
Here are some quotes she made about local food and agriculture, while she was Minister of Ag
Unfortunately Ms. Mitchell lost her seat in the October 2011 provincial election.
But don't feel bad for her, our agricultural and rural champion.
She seems to have landed on her feet.

Within months of being turfed out, she has been hired by the lobbyist firm who work for Baupost/Highlands to try to sway politicans (you know, her friends) into what a great thing a 2,300 acre 200 foot below the water table, open pit limestone mine, situated on prime agricultural land, will be.

Here is a link to the BIG announcement: http://counselpa.com/people/people.php?id=13

So Carol Mitchell has NO aggregate experience, but as a former Minister for OMAFRA I expect she will know on which doors to knock.
Is this what we pay our MPP’s to do? Get elected to make connections, stay in office long enough for a pension, then work for lobbyists?

I would suggest that during her tenure as Ag minister she might gave got off her ass and directed her staff to FINALLY prepare specialty crop criteria.

Something which was required to be done when the Provincial Policy statement was implement in 2005.

Or demanding a review of the PPS at its five year mark to ensure that prime agriculture lands be given a higher priority than aggregate.

Here is her picture.

Maybe you will see her and Mavis, another ex-Liberal MPP, having lunch in Rosedale?

  1. There is no indication that she was hired by Highlands in that announcement. Google search does not provide any associations between her and Highlands. Am I missing something here?

  2. Slava: Prior to knowing enough people in her community to get elected on local council, then as Warden and then as MPP (and that isn't hard, ask Dufferin's ONLY Liberal member of parliament how family connections worked for her) Caro worked in retailing, and had her own business specializing in children's clothing for 10 years. SO unless the Counsel hired her to make coffee or be arm candy, the ONLY thing she is qualified to do there is to dial the phone to her old cronies on behalf of Highlands lobbyists.

Can we find out for sure and then write letters of complaint? Let the local papers know?

It is true, read the Counsel's announcement and Carol's bio, but to whom are you going to complain? She is not a politican anymore and has a right to a job. Otherwise instead of just being morally bankrupt, she will be financially bankrupt as well.
