Hey folks, I'm concerned that outrage is misdirected. Although there is no doubt that Seth Klarman and Baupost are villainous to the world, it is John Lowndes/Highlands who thunk this up, bought the land and made the application. Seth and Baupost will profit no matter what happens because that's how hedge funds work! The quarry scheme will be shut down for a variety of reasons (mainly that it's too expensive to run in a peak oil permanently negative growth world economy) but it is too late to stop the fact that it is now a financial instrument (and that, just like turbines and lots of other offences, is another story...)
The outrage is not misdirected. It's spread out evenly towards Lowndes, Klarman, the corrupt politicians who lined their pockets and looked the other way, the local residents who refuse to acknowledge the pending disaster in their midst, and there's even a wee bit left for the Prime Minister of Canada and his evil minion Peter Kent, who continue to believe that this country's resources are for sale to the highest bidder, to hell with the future.....
