Dear Ontario Greens,
You can help put clean water and prime farmland ahead of aggregates mines. Speak out today!

The deadline for public comments to the Aggregate Resource Act review hearings is next Tuesday, July 17 at 5:00 pm. We have a sample letter for you to send on the GPO web site.

The GPO and numerous community groups scored a big victory during the fall election campaign when we forced the government to agree to review the Aggregate Resources Act. This was in response to the proposed mega quarry in my riding of Dufferin Caledon, but it affects pits and quarries across Ontario.

The committee needs to hear from you that clean air and water, local food sources, and the well-being of our communities must come first.

Write to the committee today and encourage a friend to as well.

Yours,

Rob Strang
Critic for Ministry of Natural Resources

"We must set an immediate goal of improving Ontario’s aggregate recycling rate of 7% to achieve the UK’s rate of 24%."

UK's recylcing rate of 24% includes almost inclusively aggregate material"by products" not sold and "recycled" used in to other products. This is misleading as they "recycle" old conc., asphalt and aggregate products very little.

Ontario's numbers are based on actual recycling of old conc, asphalt.....

I wish people(green party) would do their homework before quoting other countries recycing numbers.

@Anonymous 13 July 2012 - That 24% figure was sourced from a magazine article and has been in common use since. With well over 40 presentations to the Aggregate Resources Act Review Committee, you are the first one to question the data. What makes you so familiar with the UK agg. industry? Perhaps it's not a case of bad "homework" but rather the agg. industry failing to release good comparable data. They don't want their sweet deal looked at too closely ...
